The thousand years of the Millennium will be ushered in when the Savior comes in power and glory. The devil will be loosed for a short time after the Millennium, and wickedness will again prevail upon the earth (see Revelation 20:7–8; D&C 88:110–11; 43:31).

The Millennium will be righteous Israel’s day with the Savior, during which He will make all things known to them (see Zechariah 2:11; D&C 101:32–34; 121:26–32; 2 Nephi 30:16–18; Isaiah 11:9). The great genealogical program of the Church is designed specifically to identify the ancestors of those who are interested in the eternal salvation of their progenitors, and presenting their names in one of the temples, where the saving gospel ordinances are performed in their behalf by proxies.

I expect those who die single will have it set right sometime in the millennium and will have that work done for them just as any work must be done for any who have died without the opportunity for ordinance work in this life. See Doctrine and Covenants 29:11; Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:36; 2 Thessalonians 1:7–8. The earth will rest for a thousand years from the wickedness that has been upon it (see Moses 7:47–49, 64–65; Isaiah 14:7). Whenever we “hear” things, we need to have scriptures, or revelation from modern-day Prophets to back up such statements. “According to this word I have read there shall be harmony, and love, and peace, and righteousness because Satan is bound that he cannot tempt any man, and that will be the condition that shall be upon the earth for 1,000 years” (Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 3:58).

Those who are living when the Savior comes, with the exception of the wicked who will be destroyed, will continue to live as mortals into the millennium. At the age of a tree (D&C 101:30) they will die, but rather than having their spirits separate from their bodies, as is the case with death now during mortality, they will be changed from mortality to immortality in the twinkling of an eye, as is recorded in Doctrine & Covenants 101:31.
